Mittens

I lost my mitten the other day. I looked over on my passenger seat where I usually place them and only one was there. After just having gone skiing in Lutsen (for the first time), I thought it may have gotten mixed up with my "winter gear." I washed them all and no mitten.

These are those kind of mittens where the top of the fingers folds down and velcros to the back of the hand. But, the velcro sticks to everything so it's collected so much lint over the years that it now sticks to nothing. I've had them since high school. They were specific to trumpet players because we didn't need a thumb exposed. The seam of the flap has been resewed (thanks mom!) at least ten times.

Since pretty much giving up playing my trumpet (it's in my closet) they have come in handy since mobile phones have become popular... even more so the need for finger exposure when using my iPhone.

It's been about a week since it went missing. I've emptied my car... even though it was bitter cold with a wind chill. I washed the other one. It sits waiting on top of my coat rack just in case it's partner in crime decides to return.

I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and looked for a replacement... after all it is still winter, and the steering wheel is awfully cold at 7am. There just weren't any to compare. I guess they were sold out of all the basic ones. So, I passed and figured I would be able to make it until next winter.

Today after work I went to my car. When I opened my door, there was my mitten... on my seat. The one I always sit on when driving. It made it's way back, probably got bored from a lonely vacation. I had to think twice about whether I had maybe brought the other one with, but no. The pair was reunited this afternoon, and as of right now they lay beside each other on top of my coat rack.
